Tom Homan blasts Democrat for proclaiming to be ‘proud Guatemalan’

.

Border Czar Tom Homan railed against Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) for claiming to be a “very proud Guatemalan first to being American.”

Ramirez attended the second Pan-American Congress in Mexico City over the weekend and commented in Spanish. While the declaration earned applause in the room at the time, her remarks spurred outrage online.

Homan took a question on Wednesday at an impromptu press conference about Ramirez’s comment.

“I think what she said was disgusting, right?” Homan said. “I mean she’s a sitting U.S Congresswoman, [a] citizen of this country. She is serving at the privilege of her state. Her voters put her in there. So I think that commitment should be to her State and people who put her in that position. That should be your constituency.”

“And what she said was in a veiled way supporting illegal aliens from Guatemala to here. It’s a veiled shot,” Homan added.

Ramirez responded to the backlash, saying, “Honoring my Guatemalan ancestry only strengthens my commitment to America.” The Illinois representative pointed to her “white colleagues” that “no one questions” for honoring their Irish-American, Italian-American, or Ukrainian-American heritage.

“Let’s call it what it is: today’s attacks are a weak attempt to silence my dissent and invalidate my patriotic criticism of the nativist, white supremacist, authoritarians in government,” Ramirez said.

“It is the definition of hypocrisy that members of Congress, who betray their oath each day they enable Trump, are attacking me for celebrating my Guatemalan-American roots.”

Homan finished his statement with a promise to fulfill his job of deporting illegal immigrants.

“But what she needs to know is ICE is deporting thousands of nationals from Guatemala every week. And we can continue that until every illegal alien in Guatemala is removed from this country,” Homan said.

“That’s what the people voted for, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
