President Donald Trump has donated his first presidential paycheck of his second term to the White House Historical Association, he announced Wednesday afternoon.
“My first “Paycheck” went to the White House Historical Association, as we make much needed renovations to the beautiful ‘People’s House.’ Great improvements and beautification is taking place at the White House, at levels not seen since its original creation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The congressional-approved presidential salary sits at $400,000 annually, paid on a monthly basis, and comes with a yearly $50,000 allowance for expenses related to the duties of the office, per the House code.
Trump has consistently donated his allotted presidential salary since assuming his first term 2017. He donated the first presidential paycheck of his first term to the National Park Service. He has also made donations to the Department of Health and Human Services to study COVID-19 treatments, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Homeland Security.

In his Truth Social announcement, Trump falsely claimed he is “the only President (with the possible exception of the Late, Great George Washington)”. Trump has proclaimed this before, though it is untrue. Late Presidents Hebert Hoover and John F. Kennedy, who were each independently wealthy, are known to have refused and subsequently donated their salaries to charity. George Washington received a salary of $25,000.
The White House Historical Association did not respond to a request for comment.
