Suspect identified in Walmart stabbing that injured 11 people

Michigan police have identified the suspect accused of stabbing 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City on Saturday.

Local police revealed on Sunday that Bradford James Gille, a 42-year-old male and Michigan resident, is the suspect in custody as officials seek to file terrorism charges and 11 charges of assault with intent to murder against him. Gille is set to be arraigned early this week and faces life in prison, police noted.

Gille is a native of Afton, Michigan, a small community around 90 miles from Traverse City, where the stabbing occurred. According to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea, Gille has a criminal history that includes assault and controlled substance violations, and previously served jail time in Florida for vandalism.

Gille was quickly brought into custody following the stabbing at the store, with five to six bystanders assisting with the arrest.

No motive for the attack is known, which saw Gille randomly attack 11 people near the checkout area of the Walmart with a folding-style knife.

The victims included both men and women, with their ages ranging from 21 to 84. According to Munson Heathcare, the largest healthcare system in northern Michigan, two of the victims remain in serious condition, eight others are in fair condition, and the one other victim has been treated and released from the hospital.
