Maurene Comey sends warning to colleagues about Trump administration after being fired from DOJ

Former federal prosecutor Maurene Comey sent an email Thursday to her former colleagues one day after being fired from the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, telling them that “fear is the tool of a tyrant.”

“If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain,” she wrote. “Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”

Comey, who worked as an assistant U.S. attorney, was fired abruptly from her role Wednesday. She is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, who is frequently the subject of President Donald Trump’s ire.

“For the majority of my nearly ten years in SDNY, fear was never really conceivable,” she wrote in the email, reported by Politico. “We don’t fear bad press; we have the luxury of exceptional security keeping us physically safe; and, so long as we did our work with integrity, we would get to keep serving the public in this office. Our focus was really on acting ‘without favor.’”

“But we have entered a new phase where ‘without fear’ may be the challenge,” she continued.

MAGA ANGER OVER EPSTEIN FILES GIVES TRUMP LIMITED OPTIONS TO QUELL DIVISIONS

Maurene Comey prosecuted cases related to the crimes of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. She was fired from the DOJ amid public uproar over the department’s nonrelease of files related to Epstein.

The DOJ and FBI released a joint memo nearly two weeks ago that said Epstein did not have a client list and that he died in jail by suicide in 2019. Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino for years peddled conspiracies about Epstein’s death and his so-called client list.
