Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, sharply criticized Ireland over its movement on a bill that will ban trading with Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
“Did the Irish fall into a vat of Guinness & propose something so stupid that it would be attributed to act of diplomatic intoxication?” Huckabee posted on X late Tuesday. “It will harm Arabs as much as Israelis. Sober up Ireland! Call [Israel’s foreign ministry] & say you’re sorry!”
Huckabee’s statement comes after the Irish Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade discussed the draft legislation this week. The bill, which would ban imports of goods originating in Israeli settlements within Palestinian territories, has received support from anti-Israel lawmakers and opposition from Jewish organizations.
If the legislation passes in the Irish Parliament, it would mark the first time a national legislature in Europe has approved such a law.
Irish officials continue to call for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians amid the Jewish state’s war with Hamas. The European nation recognized Palestinian statehood last year.
Speaking on behalf of the White House last month, Huckabee turned down a two-state solution as an effective means to end the war.

“Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there’s no room for it,” Huckabee told Bloomberg, noting those things will likely not happen “in our lifetime.”
When pressed on whether Palestinian statehood remains a goal of U.S. foreign policy, as it had been for the past 25 years, he said, “I don’t think so.”
Huckabee, a longtime proponent of Israel, appeared at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial on Wednesday in an unprecedented show of support. The prime minister faces allegations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
“I stopped by the trial of [Netanyahu] in Tel Aviv today,” the Trump-appointed ambassador wrote on social media. “My conclusion? [President Donald Trump] is right…again.”

Trump rebuked Netanyahu’s court case last month.
“It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran. … It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure.”
