A suspect is dead, and multiple people, including a Kentucky state trooper, have been injured after a shooter opened fire near a Lexington airport before heading to a nearby church.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, shot the trooper near Blue Grass Airport on Terminal Drive shortly before noon on Sunday before they fled to Richmond Road Baptist Church, according to Kentucky State Police.
“At which time KSP and Lexington Police Dept. were able to secure the suspect,” Kentucky State Police wrote on social media. “At this time, we can confirm that the trooper is receiving medical attention. There are multiple victims at the church, and EMS is on scene. The suspect is deceased.”
Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) expressed his support for “everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence.”
“Let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” he wrote on social media.
