Republican politicians encourage New Yorkers to move after Democratic primary

.

After socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, Republican lawmakers took advantage of the situation to encourage people to move to primarily red states.

Some of Mamdani’s campaign promises are to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel, freeze rent, and provide free child care. Republican lawmakers mocked Mamdani’s platform by suggesting his constituents would be better off moving away.

“To all my friends in New York who are not communists; Come to Texas!” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wrote on X on Tuesday. “We love freedom & we’re not nuts.”

“Here’s a solution: move to Ohio,” former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote in response to New York City’s Democratic primary election results. “The heart of the nation, with 4 full seasons & an economic boom on the horizon. Friendly, hardworking, family-oriented people. Diverse viewpoints. Zero capital gains tax, zero income tax, & a gold standard for K-12 education. All coming very soon.”

“Tonight is proof that the modern Democratic Party has lost its mind. To all the residents and business owners of New York City who don’t want a socialist, defund the police, antisemitic mayor representing them, I encourage you to move to New Jersey,” Republican New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli wrote. “When I win the governorship in 4+ months, we’re going to transform NJ into a beacon of commonsense, affordability, economic opportunity, and law and order. Join us! It’s time!”

“Florida got a big win last night. With the NYC election, more cash is about to move to Florida from the newly socialized People’s Republic of New York City,” Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) wrote Wednesday. “Enjoy the bread lines, we’ll take your billionaires.”

“In 2017, I went to NY to encourage businesses and families to move to Florida,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) wrote Wednesday. “Today is a great day for the [Sunshine State] and we welcome businesses who want to grow jobs and families who want to live in safe communities!”

DESANTIS JOKES ABOUT LOOMING NYC EXODUS AS DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST LEADS MAYORAL POLLS

Patronis and Scott were echoing Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who jokingly responded to a poll in favor of Mamdani with the caption, “Just when you thought Palm Beach real estate couldn’t go any higher.” According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Florida topped the list of the highest net migration in 2023, with 372,870 moving in.

It remains to be seen how Mamdani will fare in the general election against not only Republican candidates but also the independent incumbent Mayor Eric Adams.
