Iranian strike on US Qatari base met with regionwide condemnation

Iran’s missile strike against a U.S. military base in Qatar was met with near-unanimous rebuke in the Middle East, including from sympathetic powers such as Oman.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, and the Muslim World League all issued condemnations of the attack. Many of them also condemned the U.S. strikes against Iran just two days prior.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly state of Qatar, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness,” officials in Riyadh said in a statement obtained by the Wall Street Journal. “It is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances.”

The UAE’s foreign ministry “stressed the need for an immediate end to military escalation,” warning that further escalations would lead down “dangerous paths” and have “disastrous repercussions for international peace and security.”

Jordan, one of the United States’s closest allies in the region, “affirmed its strong condemnation of the aggression launched by Iran.” Bahrainian officials said the attack was a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace.

Oman, which enjoys some of the best relations with Iran in the region and has served as a mediator between Iran and the U.S., called the attack “a dangerous and unjustified escalation.”

A statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates used some of the strongest language, describing the attack as a “heinous act.”

“The Kingdom of Morocco expresses its full support for the brotherly State of Qatar in the face of any action that threatens its security or endangers the safety of its people,” the statement reads.

The Palestinian Authority, which has a rocky relationship with Iran due to the latter’s support for Hamas, condemned the attack as well.

“The State of Palestine considered this attack a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly State of Qatar and affirms its support for the State of Qatar and its brotherly people,” reads a statement posted on the Palestinian Authority’s Wafa news site.

The Muslim World League “strongly condemned” the Iranian attack, adding that it “constitutes a flagrant violation of Islamic values and principles, as well as international and humanitarian laws and norms.”

The attacks “cannot be justified under any pretext,” the Islamic organization concluded.

Iran launched over a dozen missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. base in the region, in retaliation for U.S. strikes targeting Tehran’s nuclear program in the early hours of Sunday. Iran provided advanced notice to minimize casualties. President Donald Trump reported that 13 of 14 missiles were intercepted and that there were no casualties, though a Qatari military official reported a total of 19 missiles, with one missile hitting the facility.

Trump thanked Iran for the advanced notice and expressed hope for deescalation after the attack.

TRUMP THANKS IRAN FOR EARLY NOTICE IN RETALIATORY STRIKES AND HOPES FOR ‘NO FURTHER HATE’

“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

“Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE,” Trump continued. “I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”
