Trump says US had ‘nothing to do’ with recent strikes on Iran, warns ‘full strength’ response if attacked

.

President Donald Trump rebutted allegations that the U.S. Armed Forces were involved in Saturday night’s attack against Iran and warned a military response at “levels never seen before” would be levied should the U.S. be attacked “in any way, shape or form by Iran.”

Iran suffered strikes on two of its oil depots in Tehran on Saturday and on its Iranian Defense Ministry Headquarters. While Israel took credit for the strikes, Trump took to Truth Social early Sunday to affirm he wasn’t involved.

“The U.S. had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight,” Trump wrote. “If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before. However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!”

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi alleged on state TV that he had proof that the United States was involved. Araghchi claimed that U.S. Armed Forces from American bases in the region participated in the strikes. The Israel Defense Forces had already claimed responsibility in an X post on Saturday.

“The IDF completed an extensive series of strikes on targets in Tehran related to the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons project,” the post read. “The targets included the Iranian Ministry of Defense headquarters, the headquarters of the SPND nuclear project, and additional targets, which advanced the Iranian regime’s efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon and where the Iranian regime hid its nuclear archive.”

Iran has yet to publicize the death toll of its conflict with Israel that began Thursday night. Israel, on the other hand, reports 10 deaths so far and 180 injured by Iranian strikes. Among those killed was a ten-year-old boy.

The recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear program came as the U.S. failed to negotiate a deal with Iran on the matter. U.S. officials had undergone several rounds of discussions with their Iranian counterparts to no avail.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed from the start of the conflict, “We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.”

Trump notably ended the 2015 Iran deal during his first term in office in 2018. Instead, as president, he issued sanctions on Iran to pressure Tehran to allow more American oversight of its nuclear program.

On Sunday, the president is in Canada for his first G7 Summit of his second term. The conflict between Israel and Iran is likely to be a topic of discussion among world leaders.
