Grimm served in Congress from 2011 to 2015, representing Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to tax fraud and later announced his resignation from Congress.

In 2018, he attempted an unsuccessful comeback after failing to unseat former Republican New York Rep. Dan Donovan in the GOP primary.
