Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) died at the age of 75 Wednesday, his family announced in a statement.
“It is with immense sadness that we share that our devoted and loving father, husband, brother, friend, and public servant, Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, passed away peacefully at his home this morning surrounded by family,” Connolly’s family said in a statement.

Connolly stepped down as top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee last month and announced he would not seek reelection in 2026 after a recurrence of cancer.
He had represented the northern Virginia congressional district outside Washington, D.C. since 2009.
