The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg defended former President Joe Biden following his public disclosure of a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, emphasizing that the illness was not something he had been “carrying around or hiding” during his presidency.
“Had this been the case while he was president, there is no way you wouldn’t have known because he would have had to have these treatments,” Goldberg stated. “This was not something that he was carrying around or hiding.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin praised Biden’s message on social media, acknowledged how cancer touches nearly every American family, and shared that one of her best friends had died from both breast and colon cancer. She used the issue to slam the Trump administration by claiming it is cutting cancer research.
Fellow host Alyssa Farah Griffin shared that she cried upon hearing the news and emphasized the difficulty families face when grappling with aging and terminal illness.
Griffin encouraged “early detection” of cancer and said there needs to be more answers about why it was not detected earlier.
Co-host Ana Navarro described Biden as an “eternal optimist” who has always been transparent about personal hardships, from the tragic loss of his wife to his son’s battle with cancer.
“He’s doing this to remind everybody that we can all be touched by cancer,” she said.
“Get back up, Joe,” Navarro said. “We’re rooting for you.”

Sara Haines, who is also a co-host of The View, reflected on the emotional toll of seeing people work their entire lives only to face major illness soon after retirement. She expressed hope that Biden, who recently spoke about enjoying life beyond public office, still has time left to savor peaceful moments.
“Whatever beverage is his choice, I hope he gets to watch that sunset,” she said.
