OAN feed to broadcast on Voice of America

One America News Network has partnered with Voice of America to broadcast its content for free.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order recently that made sweeping cuts at the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees Voice of America and other state-funded news agencies, such as Radio Free Asia, that broadcast to authoritarian regimes. However, U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth put a preliminary injunction on the agency to keep it running.

The Office of Cuba Broadcasting made the suggestion to cooperate with OAN, according to USAGM senior advisor Kari Lake.

“This is an enormous benefit to the American taxpayer, who is the sole source of funding for USAGM’s news outlets, which broadcast only to international audiences,” Lake said in a statement. “In my current role as Senior Advisor to USAGM, I don’t have editorial control over the content of VOA and OCB programming, but I can ensure our outlets have reliable and credible options as they work to craft their reporting and news programs. And every day I look for ways to save American taxpayers money. Bringing in OAN as a video/news source does both.”

OAN otherwise broadcasts its 18 hours of live news and 24/7 coverage via 85 broadcast stations across the country in addition to its own streaming app. Its cast of anchors was relatively unknown before joining the network. OAN originally existed among DirecTV channels until its parent company, AT&T, opted not to renew OAN’s contract in 2022, sparking an ongoing legal battle.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz is among OAN’s cast of anchors, launching his own show shortly after leaving Congress. He responded to the new partnership online, writing, “I’m not crying … you’re crying.”

Last year, OAN was readmitted to the YouTube Partner Program and became eligible to monetize its channel with its over 1 million subscribers.
