Democrat Shri Thanedar files first impeachment articles against Trump

.

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) on Monday filed the first articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in his second term.

Thanedar, who also received a second primary challenger on Monday, filed seven articles for alleged abuse of power, constitutional violations, and tyranny.

“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as president and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy,” Thanedar said in a statement. “His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act.”

A resolution outlining the seven articles filed by Thanedar cites allegations that include denial of due process, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders, misuse of the Justice Department, bribery and corruption for dismissing criminal cases and soliciting foreign emoluments, threatening military invasion against sovereign nations, and dismantling congressionally established agencies.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment. Democrats are in the minority in the House and Senate, so the prospect of any impeachment against Trump is unlikely unless they win back power in the 2026 midterm elections.

This is a developing story.
