Trump to sign executive order requiring truck drivers to speak English

.

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Monday requiring commercial drivers to speak English, according to a report confirmed by the Washington Examiner.

Trump signed an executive order in March making English “the official language of the United States.”

“President Trump believes that English is a non-negotiable safety requirement for professional drivers, as they should be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officers, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station personnel, and provide and receive feedback and directions in English,” the document first obtained by Breitbart notes.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will be directed “to rescind and replace guidance to strengthen inspection procedures for compliance with English proficiency requirements.” He’ll also evaluate protocols for verifying the authenticity of commercial driving licenses.

In addition, Duffy will be ordered to improve the working conditions of truck drivers through “additional administrative, regulatory, or enforcement actions,” under the executive order.

The document says that a guideline that commercial drivers read and speak English “has not been enforced.” The order “mandates revising out-of-service criteria to ensure drivers violating English proficiency rules are placed out-of-service, enhancing roadway safety.”

Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) sent a letter to the Transportation Department earlier this month urging it to reconsider its guidelines regarding commercial truck inspectors not being allowed to pull over non-English-speaking drivers.

Not being able to do so is a “major safety issue for all drivers, which is precisely why these regulations were promulgated in the first place,” Hageman wrote, adding that the memorandum places “millions of American motorists in jeopardy.”

In a post on X, American Truckers said, “Incredible!!! Thank you for addressing the American Truck Driver Community!! We look forward to this announcement!!!!”

In Trump’s March executive order, he reasoned why English should be the official language.

“To promote unity, cultivate a shared American culture for all citizens, ensure consistency in government operations, and create a pathway to civic engagement, it is in America’s best interest for the Federal Government to designate one — and only one — official language,” he wrote. “Establishing English as the official language will not only streamline communication but also reinforce shared national values, and create a more cohesive and efficient society.”

Trump is expected to sign several executive orders on Monday afternoon as he nears his 100th day in office on Tuesday.
