Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) doubled down on her interaction with an apparent constituent, promising she will continue to “fight back” against critics.
Mace claimed to be the target of three confrontations from strangers in public this past week alone. The representative claimed that she only has “armed security guards” when she’s at events in her capacity as a congresswoman. Otherwise, she claimed she can’t afford private security during her “personal time.”
The most recent instance came Monday when Mace visited the University of South Carolina for a Turning Point USA event. There, she gave a speech on stage titled “Hold the Line,” a phrase she has repeated in recent online posts defending her reactions to being approached by critics. While on stage, a person who appeared to be a transgender woman approached Mace to disagree with her.
“Okay, so I would like you to apologize because it is derogatory,” the person tells Mace at the start of the clip.
“No,” Mace responds. “Is ‘tranny’ derogatory to you?”
“Well yeah,” the person said in a suddenly lower voice. “Of course it f***ing is.”
“Tranny, tranny, tranny,” Mace said just as the person picked up a potted plant from the stage. At that moment, Mace’s security intervened.
“Even still, with six armed security guards, we had a man in a dress who picked up a potted plant and looked like they were going to toss it at me or throw it at me until the police moved in,” Mace explained on Fox News’s Hannity Monday. “That’s the kind of threats that conservatives are facing, like Elon Musk, like Donald Trump, every single day, and we have to stand up and fight back and fight for ourselves. Stand up for our own freedom, that’s what it’s about.”
Mace has shared the clips of her arguing with these two constituents without apology. Instead, she has continued to make fun of the instances in several social media posts. She has also warned that “condoning this kind of behavior is only going to lead to violence.”

“Men like this, it’s not okay. This kind of aggression is going to get someone hurt or worse,” Mace said. “It’s not something I condone.”
Mace repeatedly used the word “tranny” during a House Oversight Committee hearing in February. This came as Mace is pursuing a resolution to ensure only biological women are allowed in female restrooms. It also followed Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) joining Congress as the first transgender woman.
