President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted the annual White House Easter egg roll on Monday, welcoming families to the South Lawn for the beloved tradition — complete with nearly 30,000 colorful eggs.
Amid the festivities, in the Reading Nook, the first lady shared a message of kindness and compassion while reading Bunny with a Big Heart to a group of eager children.
“What a beautiful crowd. Happy Easter,” she greeted the audience warmly.

Holding up the book, she said, “I have a book here that I really like. And at the end, you will tell me what you learned from it.”
Following the reading, the first lady encouraged participation, asking the children, “So what did you learn from the book? Anyone? Tell me.”
She listened attentively as children offered their takeaways.

“Yes, we need to make friends,” she repeated after one child.
“Take care of them as well, right?” she added with a smile, echoing another.
“Kindness. Yes, we’ve learned kindness from here,” she affirmed, nodding in agreement with one child’s observation.
“To be kind to other people. Yes, I agree,” she concluded, reinforcing the book’s message.
The first lady and President Donald Trump also participated in whistle-blowing, egg rolling, and coloring with children.
The first lady shared a playful moment with the Easter Bunny, charmingly landing a boop on his nose.

The last Easter Egg Roll that included Trump was in April 2020, though it took place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That year, she shared a video reading The Little Rabbit on social media, expressing Easter wishes from afar.
The White House Easter egg roll dates back to 1878, when President Rutherford B. Hayes opened the South Lawn to children for Easter Monday festivities after egg rolling on Capitol grounds was banned.
