Former Sen. Joe Manchin has written a book about his decision to declare “independence from the extremes on both sides.”
Manchin, 77, was initially elected to the Senate as a Democrat but announced during the final months of his term that he switched his party registration to independent. His Senate term ended in 2025, and he was replaced by Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV). Manchin served two terms in the Senate.
Manchin’s memoir Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense will be released on Sept. 16 and will feature details of his “pivotal moments, tough decisions, and core values.” Former University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban wrote the forward.
“Senator Manchin combines eyebrow-raising, never-before-told stories from inside the Senate and the White House with insights into how government does — or doesn’t — work,” a press release from publisher St. Martin’s Press read.
