Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) raised the alarm against right-wing activist Laura Loomer’s apparent influence in the White House while making a joke at her expense.
President Donald Trump fired three National Security Council senior officials last week just a day after he met with Loomer. National security adviser Mike Waltz was also at the meeting where Trump claimed Loomer made hiring recommendations. The president denied Loomer had anything to do with the firings.
“What I’m a little more worried about is the just rapid firing of some of our top generals without explanation,” Bacon said on the ChuckToddcast on Monday.
“These cyber firings that apparently are linked to — look, I’m not going to make you comment on her, this Laura Loomer, but sometimes I look at her and think she’s like a character in some movie,” host Chuck Todd said.
“She’s right off the movie Poltergeist. I shouldn’t say that but she’s crazy. And I’ll leave it at that,” Bacon said in between laughs as Todd laughed. “Now the president denies that she had a, you know, part of this firing, but the fact that she was there that day — or the day prior and recommended that Gen. [Tim] Haugh and four or five others get fired, and they did get fired. And there’s no other explanation for it. I know Gen. Haugh. Gen. Haugh, he was a colonel when I was a one star. He spent 34 years in the Air Force, and every assignment other than schools, he served either in signals intelligence or cyber operations.”
TRUMP FIRES NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL STAFFERS AFTER LAURA LOOMER RAISES LOYALTY CONCERNS
Loomer is a failed congressional candidate. As recently as Saturday, Loomer signaled that she would accept a role in the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Trump has referred to Loomer as a “patriot” with “strong opinions.”
