Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington, D.C., on Sunday night, where he met with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick as Israel faces a steep reciprocal tariff set to take effect on April 9.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs on countries that tax U.S. goods, of which Israel was a part. The Jewish state was hit with a 17% tariff after the White House found that the country has in place a 33% tariff rate on U.S. imports.
In footage of the meeting posted on X, Lutnick and Netanyahu are seen greeting each other warmly before the two sides discussed trade policy. No details on the meeting were made available, but Netanyahu’s office called it “warm, friendly and productive.”
