If Sen. Cory Booker‘s (D-NJ) red-eye rant on President Donald Trump was supposed to launch him into the 2028 presidential race or at least show that his Democratic Party has life, he won’t be happy with the latest message from voters.
Instead of more Trump hate spewed by liberal politicians, likely voters prefer a more centrist Democratic tone delivered by anyone other than today’s list of possible presidential candidates.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets as Booker’s angry dismissal on the Senate floor of Trump crossed the 17-hour mark Tuesday, nearly 60% of voters said they want Democrats to tone it down and wish a new leader would emerge to head the ticket in 2028.
Rasmussen said that 59% of likely voters believe “the Democratic Party needs to be more moderate.” Just 27% want it “more liberal,” like that called for by Booker, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
And when offered a list of possible 2028 presidential candidates, “some other candidate” won with 26%, edging out former Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 nominee, by three points.
When just looking at Democratic voters, however, there is much more openness to Harris and a bullying message, though support for both has dropped in recent surveys.
LIBERAL MEDIA SCREAM: TRUMP HAS MADE BOB WOODWARD DERANGED
Some 41% would like Harris to run, the results of the campaign advertising and party push during the 2024 election, said the pollster. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and “some other candidate” were second at 11%.
The margin was closer among Democrats who prefer a liberal versus moderate tone to the party, with liberal winning 49% to 38%, said Rasmussen.
