MSNBC host Jen Psaki criticized the Democrats for relying on the “worst media training” strategies when delivering their talking points while also offering high praise for the “brilliant” former vice president and 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
On the Bulwark’s The Focus Group podcast, Psaki explained on Saturday, “Whether it’s you or me interviewing someone, it doesn’t matter. If you ask someone, ‘What should be done about Elon Musk?’ and they respond, ‘We’re gonna build roads and bridges and defend the Affordable Care Act,’ people at home will think, ‘What in the hell?’ It comes off as disrespectful.”
“Rip the talking points up,” Psaki said. “Decide what you think authentically. … Let the quirky flags fly.”
Psaki emphasized the need for Democrats to embrace their personal side — whether it’s a love of sports, music, book clubs, cooking, or animals.
“The party is afraid to show their human side because they’re always trying to prove how smart they are,” Psaki explained.
She also offered praise for former Vice President Kamala Harris, particularly for her performance in the 2024 presidential debate, though she noted that Harris may have overprepared by isolating herself from public interaction for two weeks beforehand.

“Looking back, she absolutely nailed the debate,” Psaki said. “She’s engaging, brilliant.”
She also noted that Harris has a “great laugh,” which she appreciates.
