President Donald Trump didn’t hesitate Friday when asked to provide a definition of the word “woman,” something that has proven tricky for Democrats in recent years.
“It’s sort of easy to answer for me,” Trump said. “Because a woman is somebody that can have a baby under certain circumstances. She can — she has a quality — a woman is a person who is much smarter than a man, I’ve always found.”

The remarks drew claps and cheers from people in the Oval Office as Trump answered a question that has become something of a cultural hot button.
Progressives have emphasized transgender rights over the last decade, stressing their view that men can become women and that gender can be fluid rather than binary. But that stance has sometimes put them in an awkward position when defining their terms.
Most famously, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said during her confirmation hearings in 2022 that she could not provide a definition of the word “woman.”
“You can’t?” asked Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who raised the topic.
“Not in this context. I’m not a biologist,” Jackson said, adding, “In my work as a judge, what I do is address disputes. If there is a dispute about a definition, people make arguments, and I look at the law, and I decide.”
The question “What is a Woman?” even became the title of a documentary film by conservative commentator Matt Walsh, in which he argues that progressive definitions of the term are circular.
Trump had no such issue on Friday.
“A woman is a person that doesn’t give a man even a chance of success,” he added, “and a woman is a person that in many cases has been treated very badly.”

Trump has taken a hard-line stance on making sure that transgender athletes cannot compete in women’s sports, saying that he thinks 94% of the country agrees with him on the issue.
“The other day, I watched a well-known Democratic congressman fighting for the fact that men should be allowed to compete, essentially, in women’s sports,” he said. “I hope they keep that going because they’ll never win another election. Women are basically incredible people, do so much for our country, and we love our women and are going to take care of our women.”
