Cory Mills under House Ethics Committee investigation for alleged financial violations

The House Ethics Committee will investigate Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) after a report from the Office of Congressional Conduct found that alleged weapons contracts held by the Republican with the federal government could violate rules.

The committee is picking up reviewing Mills after the longest delay in history to fill out the panel following a controversial end to the 118th Congress in which the secretive body voted to release former Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz‘s ethics report despite him no longer being in office.

“The Board recommends that the Committee further review the above allegation concerning Rep. Mills because there is substantial reason to believe that Rep. Mills may have entered into, enjoyed, or held contracts with federal agencies,” the OCC wrote in its report

The OCC referred the investigation to the House Ethics Committee last August. After the committee’s announcement Thursday to consider the allegations, this puts Mills at risk of punishment depending on the committee’s findings. A report from the OCC was also released detailing the possible misconduct.

“Congressman Mills is committed to complying with all laws and ethics rules and is pleased that the Federal Election Commission recently dismissed a complaint with similar allegations,” a Mills spokesperson wrote to the Washington Examiner. “We trust the House Ethics Committee will come to a similar conclusion.”

Mills, who has been in Congress since 2023, owns several entities that have been awarded contracts from the federal government since 2019, according to the report. Federal law prohibits lawmakers from contracting with the government. The report also notes that Mills did not cooperate with the investigation, leading them to recommend that the Ethics Committee issue a subpoena.

Mills made headlines last month over allegations of assault in Washington. The Metropolitan Police Department’s internal affairs is also investigating the situation after there were numerous police reports about an altercation involving Mills and Sarah Raviani, the co-founder of Iranians for Trump.

The original police report stated that a woman, a 27-year-old who is not the congressman’s wife, said that her significant other for over a year “grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door.” In a statement, Raviani denied a physical altercation but noted there was an “emotionally charged” personal matter.
