Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said she was referring to Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) busing migrants north when she called him “Governor Hot Wheels” and was not making fun of his disability. However, a new report revealed she liked social media posts calling Abbott “Hot Wheels” before the busing began.
Crockett drew outrage on Saturday when she appeared to make fun of Abbott’s disability at a Human Rights Campaign event by derisively calling him “Governor Hot Wheels.” Abbott has been in a wheelchair since age 26 after being paralyzed in 1984 when a tree fell on him and broke his back.
A Washington Free Beacon investigation cast doubt on Crockett’s claim that she was referring to his migrant busing policy. The investigation found that she liked social media posts calling Abbott “Hot Wheels” before he started busing migrants north.
In June 2021, she liked a Facebook comment saying “Hot Wheels something else,” then later in the month responded with a heart emoji to the comment, “When I say I sick of hot wheels….I am SICK OF HIM.”
The following month, she responded with a positive emoji to the comment, “Keep making Gov Hot Wheels Mad.”
Abbott began busing migrants north in the summer of 2022, over a year after Crockett liked the comments.
Crockett’s migrant busing explanation came in a Tuesday post on X after she faced heavy criticism for her comments.
“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” Crockett said.
She used the choice language while speaking at the 2025 Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner on Saturday.
“We in these hot a** Texas streets, honey. Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. Come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he’s a hot-a** mess, honey! Yes, yes, yes, yes!” Crockett said.
Abbott dismissed the insult in a Tuesday appearance on Fox News’s Hannity.
“It’s another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it,” he said. “It’s one reason why Texas is going to remain red.”
JASMINE CROCKETT FACES CENSURE RESOLUTION OVER ‘HOT WHEELS’ COMMENT ABOUT GREG ABBOTT
Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) introduced a censure resolution this week, his office told the Washington Examiner.
“The story of our great governor of Texas is one of unwavering resilience and perseverance,” Weber said in a statement. “Meanwhile, the actions of Jasmine Crockett — stooping to vile levels of discrimination and despicable political attacks — are nothing short of reprehensible. She must be censured and held accountable for the venomous rhetoric she spews as a representative of the Democratic Party.”
