The Washington Examiner’s Joe Concha assessed how late-night host and comedian Bill Maher has become “the voice of reason” within the Democratic Party, contending that this is why his show remains popular in the modern age.
Maher detailed how he would be visiting the White House to meet with President Donald Trump in his latest podcast episode, with the late-night host assessing how Trump’s willingness to meet and talk with various people of differing ideologies aided him in the 2024 election cycle. Concha, a senior writer for the Washington Examiner, found it “interesting” how Maher is willing to reach out and talk to other people outside his political beliefs, putting him in contrast against many within the Democratic Party.
“Bill Maher has largely become the voice of reason on the Democratic side,” Concha explained on Fox News’s Fox & Friends First. “He’ll never vote Republican. He’s shown he’s clearly not a fan of President Trump’s policies, but he respects the office and he’s willing to have a conversation, and that is so much more than mostly everybody on the blue team, we’re talking lawmakers or those in the media, can say about themselves. So yeah, Bill Maher again in the news this week, he’ll be at the White House. That’s good for his brand, good for his show, and it’s great that he listens. So Bill Maher, the voice of reason; go figure.”
On Maher’s Club Random podcast, the late-night host rebuffed criticism over his meeting with Trump, telling critics “f*** you” and he would not be “playing this game that you mean girls play.” Maher also noted how Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has “changed his tune” following the 2024 election, as the governor has started a podcast to engage in friendly debate with Trump allies.
Concha also addressed recent comments from former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, in which she revealed she does not “miss” her role in the Biden administration. The senior writer said he was certain that “almost no one misses her” in the role but acknowledged that she had “one of the hardest jobs” one could ever have, defending former President Joe Biden’s presidency.

“Knowingly lying to the American people by saying that his brain actually hadn’t turned to applesauce and that he had the stamina of an average college basketball player and the mental acuity of Stephen Hawking,” Concha stated. “So she had to go up there and say these things, probably knowing that they weren’t true.”
Concha then joked that he was surprised ABC’s The View had not tried to recruit her as a co-host, suggesting that she would be a “perfect fit” for the network’s “insane asylum.” He also found it odd how Jean-Pierre has yet to find a new job in cable news, since this is typically the route many former White press secretaries take.
