Whistleblowers allege political ‘rot’ at FBI: Washington Photos of the Week

FBI whistleblowers alleged abuse within the bureau this week with the support of House Republicans who authored a report on their claims of politicized “rot” at the top of the law enforcement agency.
A trio of witnesses, FBI agents Stephen Friend and Garret O’Boyle and FBI staff operations specialist Marcus Allen, testified before Congress Thursday that the bureau retaliated against them for lodging whistleblower claims.

“The FBI will crush you,” O’Boyle, who is suspended from the FBI, told the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
The FBI, however, denied retaliation and pushed out a letter before the hearing saying two men, Friend and Allen, had their security clearances stripped for conduct surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigation.
Democrats declined to recognize the witnesses as legit whistleblowers, instead calling them “men who lost their security clearances because they were a threat to our national security,” Democratic Virgin Islands Del. Stacey Plaskett said.
Looming over Washington this week was the prospect of the government defaulting on debt obligations as soon as June 1 without congressional action. Debt ceiling negotiations continued between President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Republicans seek concessions on spending cuts in exchange for raising the government’s borrowing authority.
