Fox News host Sean Hannity announced on Monday that he would purchase a Tesla to show support for Elon Musk amid an attempted “cancellation” of the Tesla CEO.
As Tesla cars and dealerships face acts of vandalism, the company’s stock has also taken a tumble, decreasing by about 15% this past week. Celebrities followed suit with President Donald Trump, pledging to buy from Tesla.
“You know, my entire life and career, I have never supported a boycott, called for a firing, or wanted a cancellation. Just the opposite,” Hannity said on Fox News’s Hannity. “I don’t believe in cancellation. I don’t believe in cancel culture, you know, and I know maybe it’s not going to make up a difference. But you know what? After I drove my friend’s Tesla, I went, and I’ve already picked out the one I want. It’s called the — what is it called — the S Plaid. … And maybe it’s just a gesture on my part. And I like that. I like new technology, but it’s just a way of saying, you know, look what they’re doing to this guy. Look what they’re doing to these dealers. Look what’s going to happen to the workers at Tesla, the salespeople, the people on the line that are going to lose their job.”
Hannity bragged that the model has “1006 horsepower and goes from 0 to 62 in 2.0 seconds” while not needing a charge for 400 miles. He also pointed out that “it has more American parts in it than any other car made in our country.”
“Well, I looked through the list of stuff that [Musk has] done, and I don’t really see the reason to hate him. And they hate him,” Hannity said.
“Much appreciated @SeanHannity!” Musk captioned a clip of Hannity’s program on X. The attention spurred more celebrities to pledge their support.
“I FULLY, 1000 PERCENT SUPPORT DOGE AND I AM BUYING MORE TESLA STOCK!!” comedian Rob Schneider wrote.
“It’s Tesla, baby! I bought it to support @elonmusk @DOGE,” former congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams wrote on X. “We, the free people must defeat the leftists/Marxists/communist mobs or they will destroy America!”
“Support @elonmusk, buy a @Tesla,” activist Chloe Cole captioned a photo of herself with a Tesla Cybertruck.
TESLA CARS AND SHOWROOMS ARE BEING TARGETED WITH VIOLENCE AND PROTESTS
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) suggested during a Fox News interview on Monday that the attacks against Tesla have been coordinated with dark money funding. Hawley called on the Department of Justice to investigate.
Tesla stock was up 4% from the market’s open to just under $232 a share as of Tuesday afternoon.
