Former first lady Michelle Obama announced on Monday that she is launching a new podcast she will cohost with her brother.
The new podcast is titled IMO, an acronym for “in my opinion,” and was announced a little less than two months into President Donald Trump’s second term. Obama said that her brother, Craig Robinson, is someone she can turn to “whenever I have anything on my mind” and that the two will “share our perspectives” on any questions that listeners have.
“I’m going to be honest,” Obama wrote on Instagram. “We don’t have all the answers. But there will be a lot of opinions. A lot of learning. And plenty of laughs. Because we all need some moments of light right now.”
Higher Ground, a media company founded by the Obama family in 2018, will produce the new podcast. The company also produces The Michelle Obama Podcast and The Light Podcast.
Robinson is the executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and cohosts Ways to Win, a podcast with basketball coach John Calipari.
IMO will debut with two episodes on Wednesday. Barbie and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse actress Issa Rae will be the guest in the second episode.
BIDEN TOLD TRUMP HE BLAMED OBAMA AND PELOSI FOR 2024 ELECTION LOSS
While former President Barack Obama attended Trump’s inauguration, the former first lady did not join him. Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, the Obamas congratulated Trump and Vice President JD Vance on their win while acknowledging the result was “not the outcome we had hoped for.”
The announcement of IMO comes shortly after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) launched his own podcast, This is Gavin Newsom, where he expressed interest in talking with the “architects of the MAGA movement.” In his debut episode, Newsom took a stand against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, a stark departure from the position of many Democratic lawmakers.
