Virginia AG says ‘broad search’ underway in Caribbean for missing resident Sudiksha Konanki

.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares confirmed that a “broad search” is being conducted for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old resident of Virginia who disappeared while visiting the Dominican Republic.

Konanki, who is from Chantilly and had been attending the University of Pittsburgh, was reported missing on Thursday while vacationing with five friends, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Sunday. Miyares said all of Konanki’s friends have been accounted for but underscored the necessity to find Konanki herself, adding that there is “so much” unknown about her disappearance.

“And so, this is now an investigation. Obviously, our No. 1 goal is to find her and hopefully safe and sound, but we have to have a broad, broad search … the federal authorities are working with the Dominican Republic,” Miyares confirmed on Fox News’s Fox & Friends.

Konanki’s father, Subbarayudu Konanki, said his daughter and her friends went to the beach early Thursday morning with some men they had met at a resort party. Around 5:55 a.m., surveillance cameras showed five women and one man leaving the beach, while Konanki is believed to have stayed with a man; four hours later, cameras caught the man leaving without Konanki, according to local police.

Miyares added that authorities in the Dominican Republic are being “very cooperative” in this search, stating they have mobilized the Dominican Navy and the Dominican Civil Defense Force in the search for Konanki. He added that foreign countries “respect” President Donald Trump and will fully work with the United States to find Virginia’s missing resident.

The attorney general then requested that anyone with information that could aid in finding Konanki pass this information to him or local authorities, such as phone calls or text messages.

“Any information, even if you think it doesn’t really matter, it may matter in a case like this,” Miyares said. “Please pass it on to the proper authorities.”
