Actor Alec Baldwin reacted to the recent election, claiming President-elect Donald Trump’s victory could be credited to “uninformed” voters.
Baldwin addressed a press conference in Turin, Italy, on the condition that no reporters ask about his involvement in the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021, which resulted in her death while filming the movie Rust in New Mexico. Instead, he explained how Trump swept the popular vote in the U.S. three weeks ago.
”In my country, without going into significant detail, half the people in the country are very unhappy. It’s a very difficult time in the United States,” Baldwin said. “Americans are very uninformed about reality, what’s really going on — with climate change, Ukraine, Israel, you name it. All of the biggest topics in the world, Americans have an appetite for a little bit of information.”
His comments drew ire from Trump’s supporters online.
”’Uninformed’ = Hollywoodspeak for ‘have not yet been programmed to share my opinions,’” television news streaming platform Grabien founder Tom Elliott wrote.
”Keep calling us stupid, hair trigger, that worked out great for the Democrats this year,” another user wrote.
“Alec Baldwin should be in jail for life. Instead, he’s trashing our country. Typical Hollywood liberal,” another wrote.
Fellow actor Robert Davi issued a video response to the clip. Davi did not proclaim to be Baldwin’s friend, but he said he respected him as an actor.
”You think Robert Kennedy Jr., who was once a friend of yours, you denigrate him. You think he’s insignificant and not informed, Alec? You think he’s uninformed?” Davi said. “You think Elon Musk is uninformed, Alec? You think Donald Trump is uninformed? Tulsi Gabbard, Vivek Ramaswamy? Alec, shame on you.”
