Rep. Anna Paulina (R-FL) secured her seat in Congress for a second term, defeating Democratic challenger Whitney Fox.

Luna claimed 54.7% of the vote while Fox claimed 45.3% when the Associated Press called the race at 7:46 p.m. with 91% of the vote counted.

The Cook Political Report rated Florida’s 13th Congressional District “Likely Republican,” making it one of the most secure Republican swing seats.

Trouble was seen in October, when a St. Pete Polls survey found the two were tied.

Fox attempted to portray Luna as an extremist who was concerned primarily with spreading chaos in Congress.

“We need somebody in Washington who’s going to work for our community,” she told 10 Tampa Bay.
Unfortunately, we have a representative who has done nothing for Pinellas County and just causes chaos in Washington with partisan politics [and] divisiveness.”

Luna has countered by arguing that it was instead Fox who was the extremist.

“Whitney Fox is a dishonest extreme liberal who is all talk and no action,” campaign manager Olivia Carson told the Florida Phoenix. “While she’s been busy lying to Pinellas County residents, Representative Luna has been meeting with residents, helping constituents with their FEMA applications, conducting supply drives for our storm-impacted neighbors, meeting with President Biden and Governor DeSantis about recovery efforts, and leading the charge for increased recovery help by co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to immediately add $15 Billion to FEMA for storm recovery.”

Luna ultimately prevailed, winning her second term in Congress.
