Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt argued Vice President Kamala Harris is trying to hang on to the support she has from minority voters as many are opting instead to support her opponent and his financial policies.
Polling data have indicated that former President Donald Trump has made serious ground in winning over Latino voters and black voters, two voting blocs that typically support the Democratic Party. Leavitt contended that this is due to how all voters were better off under the former president’s economic policies, which has resulted in the “catastrophic collapse” for Democrats just two weeks out from the election.
“And it’s because, again, all Americans, particularly black Americans, have been impacted by Kamala Harris’s terrible economic policies,” Leavitt said on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus.
“The inflation crisis that is robbing them of their hard-earned paychecks every single week. And then in their communities, largely Democrat-run cities, they are being put last ahead of illegal immigrants who are being put first,” she added. “They are seeing people from all over the world come to this country on a free ride, get prepaid debit cards to buy their kids food and diapers while black Americans are falling behind.
“It’s unfair, it’s un-American, and President Trump is promising to put all Americans first,” she said. “It’s a very simple message, and it’s resonating, it’s working, and Kamala Harris is on defense with key demographics that the Democrats need to win this election, and there’s only 14 days left for her to cobble together her base.”
Leavitt noted how Harris has done next to nothing to address the issues facing voters in the nation during her almost four years as vice president, such as being the tiebreaking vote on the American Rescue Plan and inaction on securing the border. Leavitt added that instead of owning up to her neglecting her vice presidential responsibilities, she has chosen to “point the finger” toward Trump and blame him for the nation’s problems.
On Trump’s closing argument before the election, Leavitt suggested that it revolves around “a failure of a vice president” against the success of Trump’s presidency.
“Our lives by every metric were better under President Trump, he has a proven track record,” Leavitt said. “And look, Harris, you don’t have to love Donald Trump to vote for him, you have to love this country, and he is the better leader for this country.”
Among black voters, polling data have found that Harris is still backed by a wide majority of this voting bloc, getting 72% against Trump’s 17%. However, her support among black voters is 20% smaller than President Joe Biden’s support in 2020, when he received 92% support from this voting bloc against Trump’s 8%.

Meanwhile, new polling data have found that Trump is leading Harris by 11%, with the former president receiving 49% among recipients. In comparison, Trump won 30% of Latino voters in the 2020 election.
To shore up his support among Latino voters, the former president conducted a roundtable discussion in Florida with these voters, during which he pitched his call for a secure southern border. Trump also joked about his presidential opponent being a “low-IQ person” and joked the nation does not need another “low-IQ” president since “we had one for four years.”
