‘Kamala’s cooked’: SNL praised for roasting Harris and Biden

.

Saturday Night Live dedicated several skits to poking fun at President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to overwhelming amusement.

Harris is weeks away from her election against former President Donald Trump. Her increasing appearances in the public eye, a recent reversal in campaign strategy, inspired several jokes on SNL that have viewers buzzing online.

Saturday’s episode included SNL cast member James Austin Johnson’s revered Trump impersonation in a Family Feud parody during the cold open. The premise relied on Trump’s refusal to debate Harris for a second time, so the show teased a reality game show option. Cast members mocked Harris for repeatedly proclaiming she comes from a middle-class family, among other repeated campaign slogans. Harris’s running mate, Gov. Tim Waltz (D-MN), was teased for spouting “white nonsense.”

“When SNL is doing skits like this, you know that they think Kamala’s cooked. Mood shifted. I see zero on the ground excitement for her,” former congressional candidate Robby Starbuck wrote. “The whole administration is a joke to normal people. A sick, sad, long joke that we’re ready to be done with!”

“You know it’s bad when SNL is openly mocking Kamala Harris and Joe Biden,” another user wrote.

SNL has been known to be more empathetic toward Democratic politicians in recent years.

When it came to casting a Walz impersonator, SNL brought comedian Jim Gaffigan to play him. Former SNL cast member Dana Carvey made a return to portray Biden, and former member Andy Samberg played the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff.

The excitement to impersonate these Democratic candidates is reminiscent of the several performers who tried their Trump impressions in past years.
