Trump assures ‘God is with you’ in message to Hurricane Milton victims

Former President Donald Trump issued a message to Florida residents affected by Hurricane Milton, telling them that he and his wife “want God to be with you” in their recovery.

Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday night in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane, which has so far killed at least four people and left over 3.3 million buildings without power. Trump, a Florida resident himself, said he and former first lady Melania Trump are praying for the hurricane’s victims in the aftermath of the storm.

“We are deeply saddened by the devastation being reported, and it sounds like it’s as bad as it gets, and we feel so sorry for you, and we want God to be with you and we know God is with you,” Trump said in a video posted to his social media account. “Our hearts go out to each and every one of you. To those who’ve lost so much, know that you are not alone.”

The former president also encouraged followers that they would come back “better than before” the hurricane and asked victims to “keep your chin up.”

Trump then praised Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for doing “an excellent job” in his preparation and response to Hurricane Milton. The former president added that he has been talking to the governor amid the storm and that they would have “something very, very special” once the hurricane’s aftermath is over.

Trump’s praise for DeSantis mirrors what Joe Biden said about the Florida governor’s response to Hurricane Helene. The president said Tuesday that DeSantis has been cooperative with the White House and the state’s recovery is “all being done well.”

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Trump campaign authorized a GoFundMe to help victims, and it has raised over $7.6 million as of Thursday.

During a Wednesday rally in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Trump predicted that there would be “an explosion” between Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting that the president was “angry” after dropping his reelection bid in July. He also complimented Biden for looking “better now than I’ve ever seen him looking.”
