Trump rejects CNN and Fox News offer for October debate

Former President Donald Trump appeared to turn down participating in another presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris as two major television networks, Fox News and CNN, vie to host another matchup.

“IT IS VERY LATE IN THE PROCESS, VOTING HAS ALREADY BEGUN – THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday, less than 30 minutes before he campaigned in Reading, Pennsylvania. “BESIDES, KAMALA STATED CLEARLY, YESTERDAY, THAT SHE WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT THAN JOE BIDEN, SO THERE IS NOTHING TO DEBATE.”

On Tuesday, CNN issued a Thursday deadline for the campaigns to agree to a final debate in Atlanta on Oct. 23. Harris accepted the debate, but Trump poured cold water on the endeavor.

“With less than 30 days to Election Day, we are placing a deadline for a formal response from both campaigns for this Thursday, October 10 at 12 p.m. ET to participate,” the network said.

On Wednesday, Fox News proposed a different debate in Pennsylvania set for either Oct. 24 or 27, with Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum as moderators for the 90-minute affair.

“This would present an opportunity for each candidate to make his or her closing arguments,” FOX News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace and Vice President of Politics Jessica Loker wrote in a letter sent to both campaigns.

Harris and Trump faced off during an ABC News debate held last month in Philadelphia while President Joe Biden and Trump debated on June 27 in Atlanta, which Trump pointed to as a reason for turning down any more debates.

“I WON THE LAST TWO DEBATES, ONE WITH CROOKED JOE, THE OTHER WITH LYIN’ KAMALA. I ACCEPTED THE FOX-NEWS INVITATION TO DEBATE KAMALA ON SEPTEMBER 4TH, BUT SHE TURNED IT DOWN,” he wrote.

Trump’s debate against Biden was a success as the president struggled to give coherent answers, but, in the matchup against Harris, Trump lost his cool as the vice president goaded him.

In the aftermath, Trump quickly shot down any more debates, despite Harris’s insistence for another.
