Democrats fly Project 2025 banners over college football games in effort to troll Trump

Democrats have decided to use the onset of college football season to remind voters about former President Donald Trump‘s connections to Project 2025.

The Democratic National Committee has paid for banners pulled by small airplanes with an assortment of messages relating to Project 2025 in the swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.

One banner flew over Michigan Stadium, the home of college football’s 2024 national champions, while the team was taking on the Texas Longhorns. The banner read: “JD Vance ‘hearts’ Ohio State + Project 2025,” connecting Vance to both Michigan‘s archenemy and Project 2025 in an effort to sway fans away from the Trump campaign.

Similar banners flew over Penn State’s game with the Ohio-based Bowling Green, this one saying: “PENN ST: BEAT TRUMP, SACK PROJECT 2025.” One in Georgia said: “Bulldogs: Beat Trump, Sack Project 2025.”

DNC deputy communications director Abhi Rahman told the Associated Press that the banners were meant to raise awareness of Project 2025.

“We want people to know exactly what Project 2025 is, what the ties are to Trump,” Rahman said. “Finding creative avenues to get the message out is something that we’re always trying to do.”

The banners are also likely an attempt to get college voters more involved in the presidential election as students go back to school. The 18-24 age cohort has been a Democratic constituency, and the banners seek to invigorate that group to vote.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Trump campaign but did not receive a response.

Democrats have often attacked the Republican presidential ticket for their connections with Project 2025, a conservative presidential transition plan that shows, among other things, a further-to-the-right stance on abortion than Trump takes.

Trump has often denied affiliation with Project 2025, but several of his former administration officials participated in it, prompting the connection.
