The very first Chick-fil-A location is set to close for good on Saturday.

Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta was the site of the first iteration of the chicken restaurant. Its original location in the mall, at 384 square feet, was replaced by a tuxedo shop so that it could occupy a bigger space while remaining at the historic mall since its opening on Nov. 24, 1967.

“Our last day of operations here at Chick-fil-a Greenbriar Mall will be Saturday, May 20, 2023. Please visit our other locations at Chick-fil-a Camp Creek Parkway and Chick-fil-a Cascade Road,” a sign on the outside of the restaurant read. “It has been our pleasure to serve you!”

“[I]n 1967 customers could order just a few classics: the Original Chick-fil-A

Chicken Sandwich (which was just 59 cents), salads with boneless chicken breast, coleslaw, lemon pie and lemonade,” the restaurant’s website read.

Chick-fil-A did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

The Atlanta Police Department has reported nearly 60 property crimes, including burglary, shoplifting, and motor vehicle theft, in the zone that encompasses the mall during the last week alone, which is a 38% year-to-date increase. A recent increase in crime has even motivated the Atlanta neighborhood of Buckhead to attempt to break off from the city to become its own jurisdiction.
