Ted Cruz slams Adam Schiff for pushing flawed Trump-Russia claims

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is accusing Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of “lying to the American people” over the California Democrat’s allegations of collusion between former President Donald Trump and Russia.

Cruz blasted Schiff after special counsel John Durham released a report that concluded the FBI and DOJ had no proper basis to launch an investigation into allegations of collusion between Trump and Russia.

“He is certainly an expert on handling an investigation in a flawed manner. We saw Adam Schiff, perhaps the worst in all of Congress at lying to the American people, taking information that he got in a classified setting, selectively leaking it, and leaking in a way that is dishonest,” Cruz said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends.

Cruz then discussed the findings of the Durham report, saying how the investigation into Trump and Russia was “always a crock from day one.” The Texas Republican said he is unsure if Schiff will be “held to account” by voters in the Golden State.

“Whether Schiff is held to account, I don’t know. That will depend on the voters of California,” Cruz said. “But Schiff, so far, seems to have prospered on the far Left by trafficking in lies on a daily basis.”

The California Democrat has been a target of harsh criticism for Republicans for his repeated pushing of the Trump-Russia allegations since Trump became president in 2017 and after he left office in 2021.

With the Durham report finding “neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement” of the investigation, Schiff has come under more fire from Republicans for still trumpeting his claims and dismissing the findings of the report.

“This was an investigation that started in a flawed manner, it was conducted in a flawed manner, and its conclusion is a flawed conclusion,” Schiff said on Tuesday on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.

Late Wednesday, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) announced she had filed a motion to have Schiff expelled for allegedly lying to citizens over the Trump-Russia investigation. Schiff is running for Senate in California and is viewed as the favorite to succeed Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
