Former President Donald Trump took a victory lap following Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) dual election endorsement losses Tuesday night.

Trump backed Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron for the Republican nomination in the state’s gubernatorial race, while DeSantis, who is expected to challenge the former president for the GOP nomination in 2024, endorsed Kelly Craft, Trump’s former United Nations ambassador, who came in third place. DeSantis also weathered a defeat in the Jacksonville, Florida, mayoral race.

“Wow! In a big upset, the DeSanctimonious backed Republican candidate for Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, LOST. This is a shocker. If they would have asked me to Endorse, he would have won, easily. Too proud to do so. Fools! This is a BIG LOSS for the Republican Party. Remember, ‘Rob’ only won because of me!!!” Trump said on Truth Social.

DeSantis, though he endorsed Republican Daniel Davis for Jacksonville mayor, did little to assist him. Davis was ultimately defeated by Democrat Donna Deegan 52% to 48%. Republicans have governed the state’s most populous city for the past three decades.

The Florida governor also waded into the Kentucky gubernatorial race during the homestretch, commending Craft for sharing the same “vision we do in Florida.” Kentucky is currently governed by Democrat Andy Beshear.

“Congratulations to a ‘star’ in Kentucky, Danial Cameron, who easily won the Republican Nomination for Governor. He had my Complete and Total Endorsement. The DeSanctimonious backed candidate came in a DISTANT third. Ron’s magic is GONE! He also lost, shockingly, in Jacksonville last night (Mayor),” Trump wrote.

Cameron is the state’s first major-party black nominee.

DeSantis is expected to make his 2024 decision soon and has widely polled as Trump’s chief primary foe. The former president announced his candidacy for the White House in November.

During the midterm elections, Trump suffered a slew of losses in which over a dozen of the candidates he backed lost in the general election. His primary endorsement power, however, proved strong.
