Former President Donald Trump’s statements during a CNN town hall last week regarding E. Jean Carroll could be “actionable,” Carroll’s lawyer warned. The comments were made shortly after Trump was found liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll.

The Trump comments in question were made by the former president during a town hall event hosted by CNN on May 10. During the town hall, Trump claimed Carroll’s accusations were “a made-up story,” and he said that he had “no idea” who Carroll is.

In response to these statements, Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan said she had “a lot of lawyers who are very busy looking into this.” Her comments came during an interview she and Carroll did with MSNBC on Monday.

“So it’s definitely actionable,” Kaplan said. “And here, the cruelty will make him less wealthy. He is not going to get away with it another time. It’s unprecedented for a person to have been held liable in defamation to keep doing the defamation, so there are not a lot of cases that we can look to for a playbook about how to do it. But, suffice to say, I have a lot of lawyers who are very busy looking into this, and we are weighing all of our options.”

Trump was ruled liable for sexual abuse and defamation against Carroll by a New York grand jury on May 9, and he was ordered to pay $5 million in damages. Trump has denied the allegations and has vocally opposed the findings of the jury.

Kaplan’s statements regarding Trump’s CNN town hall comments came after Carroll told the New York Times last week that she is considering filing another defamation lawsuit in response.

In the wake of the ruling, attorneys for Trump have filed a notice of appeal in Carroll’s lawsuit.

The town hall that CNN hosted, where Trump made his recent comments on Carroll, drew in 3.31 million total viewers on Wednesday evening. In comparison, CNN’s 8 p.m. hour on Tuesday, occupied by Anderson Cooper 360, saw 707,000 viewers.
