Entrepreneur and GOP presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy said he would use the United States military to protect the nation’s “Swiss cheese” southern border following the expiration of Title 42.

“If we can use our military to protect somebody else’s border halfway around the world, I think we can and should use our military to secure our own border,” Ramaswamy said in a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

The presidential hopeful’s remarks come in the wake of Title 42’s expiration last week.

The policy, put in place under former President Donald Trump, blocked immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Border officials used Title 42 to reject immigrant entries over 2.8 million times.

With the termination of Title 42, border officials are expecting to see a surge of illegal immigration across the nation’s borders, and Ramaswamy believes a military presence would mitigate the threat.

“14k illegal immigrants will now cross our Swiss cheese southern border daily as Title 42 ends,” he wrote. “I will use the military to secure the border without apology. This is shameful.”

Using the military is an option available to the president, and it would do more for the country than just stop the flood of illegal immigrants, according to Ramaswamy.

“That’s something that the U.S. president can actually do, and we solve the fentanyl crisis in the process,” he said.
