There are seven states set to send out stimulus checks to qualifying residents later this year, with the highest amount being $1,500, which will go to New Jersey homeowners.

California, Idaho, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina are all expected to disburse funds this year. The stimulus checks in South Carolina have already been released. Here’s a breakdown of where states stand.

HOW BIDEN HAS STRUGGLED TO KEEP DEMOCRATS TOGETHER ON ENVIRONMENTAL PUSH

California:

Residents of the Golden State are expected to receive stimulus checks that range from $200 to $1,050, depending on their income. The checks, once referred to as “Middle Class Tax Refunds,” are available to citizens who filed 2020 California state taxes by Oct. 15, 2021, and lived in California full-time for a minimum of six months in 2020.

In order to qualify, state residents must not have been claimed as a dependent in 2020, and they must not exceed the California adjusted gross income limit, which is $250,000 for single people and married couples filing separate tax returns. No exact timeline has been given for these refunds, but the payments are expected within the first half of 2023.

Idaho:

Idaho residents are expected to receive checks in the amounts of $600 for married couples filing a joint return, $300 for all other filers, or 10% of the 2020 tax liability before credits, additional taxes, payments, and donations — whichever is greater, according to the Idaho Tax Commission.

In order to qualify, residents needed to be full-year residents in 2020 and 2021, and they must have filed an Idaho individual income tax return. Nonresidents and part-year residents are not eligible. Rebate payments will be sent throughout 2023.

Maine:

Single filers in Maine will receive $450 if they filed a state tax return in 2021. The funds are part of the state’s “Winter Energy Relief Payment.” Those who in 2021 made less than $100,000 for single taxpayers and married couples filing separately, $150,000 for heads of household, or $200,000 for married couples filing jointly are eligible for the funds.

New Jersey:

Homeowners in New Jersey will receive stipends of up to $1,500. The payments will be for those who make up to $150,000 a year. Homeowners who make between $150,000 and $250,000 will receive a stimulus payment of $1,000. Renters can also receive a stipend of $450 if they do not make more than $150,000 a year.

New Jersey’s funds will go out no later than the end of May, according to Yahoo News.

New Mexico:

New Mexico is going even further by giving its residents two stimulus checks in 2023. The first rebate will be $500 for those who file jointly, are head of household, or are surviving spouse filers with 2021 incomes below $150,000. Single residents will receive $250, and so will married couples who filed separate 2021 tax returns.

The second rebate will come in the form of $1,000 for joint filers, head of household, and surviving spouse filers. It will send $500 to single residents and married couples filing separately. In order to qualify, residents had to file a 2021 New Mexico state tax return by May 31, 2023.

Pennsylvania

Senior citizens who are at least 65 years of age, a widow(er) who is at least 50, or a person with disabilities who is at least 18 can apply for a stimulus payment with the “Property Tax/Rent Rebate” program. The cutoff for the annual eligible income is $35,000 for homeowners each year and $15,000 for renters.

Recipients would receive between $250 and $650 for homeowners, $500 to $650 for eligible renters, and up to $975 for qualified senior citizens.

South Carolina:

South Carolina residents also received rebates this year. They were delivered in two phases depending on the date they filed their 2021 tax return. People who filed by Oct. 17, 2022, received their funds, which were capped at $800, first. The other disbursement went out at the end of March, and it was for those who filed before Feb. 15, 2023.

If a resident in South Carolina did not receive a check and believes they are entitled to one, they can use the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s tracker to keep an eye on the rebate.

Sonoma County residents in California received $500 from the Pathway to Income Equity pilot program, which selected 305 out of 6,450 applicants.
