Country singer Maren Morris became the first in her genre to receive GLAAD’s excellence in media award Saturday.
During her acceptance speech, Morris mentioned her public spat with Tucker Carlson, formerly of Fox News. As an anchor, Carlson covered the story of the country singer’s Twitter feud with Brittany Aldean over transgenderism. When Aldean expressed her gratitude for being a biological woman and not transitioning into a transgender male for her tomboy nature, Morris called her a “scumbag.” During his coverage of the story, Carlson called her a “lunatic” and “fake country music singer,” which Morris turned into merchandise.

“I felt a little badass taking on Tucker Carlson for calling me a lunatic for standing up to transphobia,” Morris told the crowd while holding her trophy. “Maybe I did feel a little cool. But I don’t want to gloat. I would never insult the recently unemployed.”
Fox News announced Carlson’s departure after nearly six years as the host of its second-most popular program. Carlson has since announced his own show will be hosted on Twitter.
