‘Restore public trust’: Musk says Twitter must explain Hunter Biden laptop censorship

Twitter CEO Elon Musk suggested the social media platform should publicly detail its censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 presidential election.
Musk teased a forthcoming release of information after a question was posed on Twitter asking if people supported making public “all internal discussions about the decision to censor the @NYPost’s story on Hunter Biden’s laptop.”
“This is necessary to restore public trust,” Musk replied.

Musk’s reply had been retweeted nearly 16,000 times and had received more than 193,000 likes as of Friday morning.
In October, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, called on Musk to produce all Twitter records related to the social media platform’s decision to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. His appeal followed a previous request to former CEO Parag Agrawal to preserve documentation, which Comer said was ignored.
“Committee Republicans are investigating the Biden family’s pattern of influence peddling to enrich themselves and President Biden’s involvement in these schemes,” Comer wrote to Musk. “As part of this investigation, Committee Republicans are reviewing the role Big Tech — including Twitter — played in supporting the Biden campaign in 2020 by suppressing certain stories implicating the Bidens.”
In April, Musk said Twitter’s handling of the Hunter Biden laptop story while freezing the New York Post’s account was “obviously incredibly inappropriate.”

Earlier this week, Musk agreed with conservative filmmaker and author Dinesh D’Souza that Twitter had a history of censoring voices on the Right.
