OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to testify before Senate

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to testify before Congress next week on the rapidly advancing technology of artificial intelligence and the guardrails necessary for its development.

Altman will appear before a Senate Judiciary Committee panel on May 16, making it Altman’s first appearance before Congress. Altman oversaw the creation of the popular chatbot ChatGPT, which has sparked a surge of interest in the technology. The company has received billions of dollars in investments from Microsoft, which has incorporated the technology into several of its products.

Altman will testify alongside New York University Professor Gary Marcus and IBM chief privacy and trust officer Christina Montgomery.

Altman’s appearance before the Senate is the latest event involving Congress attempting to regulate the new technology. The White House and Congress have moved toward new research and restrictions on the technology.
