A leading anti-abortion group appears to have buried the hatchet with former President Donald Trump weeks after publicly souring on him.
Leaders of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America met with Trump on Monday and came out praising his commitment to the anti-abortion cause.
TOP ANTI-ABORTION ORGANIZATION CALLS OUT TRUMP FOR ‘MORALLY INDEFENSIBLE POSITION’
“This afternoon I joined Senator Lindsey Graham and Tony Perkins for a terrific meeting with President Trump. His presidency was the most consequential in American history for the pro-life cause,” President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.
Last month, Trump rankled the group when his campaign suggested the Supreme Court “got it right when they ruled this is an issue that should be decided at the state level.”
SBA said the campaign’s apparent position of rejecting major federal restrictions on abortion was a “morally indefensible position.”
The fight came in the context of Republicans grappling with the hot-button matter nationally. Strict anti-abortion positions, such as six-week bans and not considering exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother, are unpopular positions that have left Republicans scrambling.
Dannenfelser lauded Trump for affirming his commitment to opposing “extreme” liberal views on the matter.
“During the meeting, President Trump reiterated his opposition to the extreme Democratic position of abortion on demand, up until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers,” Dannenfelser added. “Trump reiterated that any federal legislation protecting these children would need to include the exceptions for life of the mother and in cases of rape and incest.”

Trump was the first sitting president to attend the March for Life and had a strong relationship with SBA throughout his presidency. His dust-up with the anti-abortion group came amid efforts to lock down support from evangelical voters in the crowded 2024 GOP primary.
Other contenders in the 2024 arena moved to outflank him on the matter. For instance, shortly after Trump’s remarks caused a stir, contender former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) delivered an anti-abortion message at SBA headquarters.
