At least eight ‘fake’ Georgia electors accept immunity deal amid Trump investigation

At least eight people who are accused of being “fake electors” in Georgia have accepted immunity deals amid an investigation into alleged efforts by former President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election, according to court documents.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told all 16 alternative electors that they were targets in her widespread investigation after they allegedly agreed to declare Trump the winner of Georgia’s general election despite Gov. Brian Kemp’s (R-GA) certification of the results. Willis offered immunity to the electors if they agreed to testify, and eight have accepted, defense attorney Kimberly Bourroughs Debrow said in the filing.

The eight testimonies are expected to shed light on Trump’s, or his allies’, alleged efforts to interfere in the Georgia election, according to CNN.
Friday’s filing was Debrow’s response to the district attorney’s efforts to remove her from the case. The DA claimed there was a conflict of interest because the electors Debrow was representing were incriminating each other. Debrow, however, has rejected the allegations of incrimination.
“The District Attorney’s Motion is reckless, frivolous, offensive, and completely without merit,” Debrow wrote. “There is no merit to the District Attorney’s claim that any elector incriminated another in their recent interview, and the recordings and transcripts prove it.”

Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the election resulted in the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol, during which hundreds of Trump supporters attempted to stop the certification of the 2020 election.
Willis recently revealed that charges could be brought against Trump or his allies as early as July 11.
