Comer requests new materials in Biden classified document investigation

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is asking former White House counsel Dana Remus to testify in the investigation into President Joe Biden allegedly improperly handling classified documents.
The letter follows the committee’s monthslong investigation into documents found at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, and at the Penn Biden Center.

Comer, elected chairman last year on the promise of holding the Biden administration accountable, has been targeting materials found at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C., and his home in Delaware since they were discovered. The documents in question are from Biden’s time as vice president.
Comer writes that the committee has identified Remus “as a witness with potentially unique knowledge about this matter and requests information from you.” The letter follows an interview with Kathy Chung.
Last month, the Republican-led committee interviewed Chung, Biden’s former executive assistant, who testified she was unaware she was handling any classified documents as she packed the president’s think tank office.
Comer includes a transcription of the interview with Chung to show that while Biden had the means to secure the documents, he neglected to do so, which “raises many additional questions about the repercussions of these actions, including possible threats to national security.”
Comer seeks more information from Remus on how documents were handled by Chung. The letter raises questions about Remus’s first contact with Chung. It says the timing “coincides with important dates in the federal government’s subpoena for documents at former President Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago.”

Biden’s lawyers first found the classified documents on Nov. 2 when clearing out his old office at the Penn Biden Center and then in his Delaware home in December. Both instances were revealed to the public in January.
Comer requested that Remus make herself “available for a transcribed interview with Committee staff,” instructing Remus to make contact by May 30.
