Conservative Party leader blasts Trudeau for saying he’s not ‘woke enough’

Canada’s Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre responded Friday to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accusing him of not being “woke” enough.
Trudeau made the comment not in Poilievre’s presence but at the Liberal Party convention in Ottowa Thursday. The prime minister promised to run in the next election in front of 3,500 party members. Speaking to an audience that included former United States Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Trudeau poked fun at Poilievre’s dislike of the network CBC and support of cryptocurrency.

“Pierre Poilievre’s populism, his slogans, and buzzwords are not serious solutions to the serious challenges we’re facing,” Trudeau said. “Too woke? Hey, Pierre Poilievre, it’s time for you to wake up.”

“Justin, you’re right: I’m not woke,” Poilievre responded in a Twitter video. “But I am common sense, and I will bring home a country that works for the people who actually do the work.”

Poilievre criticized Trudeau for preaching about climate change while flying private jets, refusing to debate him, and wanting to ban hunting rifles while legalizing drugs such as cocaine and heroin. The conservative parliamentarian recited the list off of the top of his head while riding in a car on his way to Newfoundland. He went on to promise that his own party will provide lower costs by abolishing the carbon tax, more domestic jobs over outsourcing, more jail time over bail options for criminals, and removing censorship laws.

“Justin, I know that all of these ideas are foreign to you. In fact, Canada must feel foreign to you with all the time you spend abroad,” Poilievre said. “I understand you’re once again wheels up far away while I’m on the ground here in Newfoundland, about to meet with some loggers.”
Trudeau governs with a Parliament that includes 158 liberal parliamentarians, just short of the 170-member majority, while 119 seats have gone to the opposition party.
